The project had particularly positive results:
Improvement of cooperation between organizations of the two countries, BIOECO and EKBY.
Training in sustainable water management issues of scientists involved in the project.
Recognition of the necessary restoration interventions in Doirani Lake with the implementation of scientifically documented methods and modern hydrological simulation tools, after alternative scenarios were examined.
Assessment of the lakeís functions and values and restoration proposals were the object of deliberation with organizations in both countries; this contributes to the credibility of results and to the possibility of undertaking initiatives to implement the proposed interventions.
The general public in both countries was informed on the projectís actions and results.
The project was publicized in the international community; in fact, it was presented on the webpage of MedWet initiative as a project that has contributed to the preservation of Mediterranean wetlands.
The projectís main products, i.e. the Doirani Lake description report and the function assessment and restoration measure recognition study, have been placed at the disposal of services, local government organizations and scientists in both countries in order to facilitate research, decision-making and raising public awareness.
